‘General Hospital’ actor Johnny Wactor shot and killed during robbery in Los Angeles
In a tragic and senseless fatal shooting, Johnny Wactor, perhaps best known for his portrayal of Brando Corbin in the classic daytime soap “General Hospital,” was shot and killed during a suspected catalytic converter theft attempt in downtown Los Angeles. Wactor was 37 years old. The shooting went down early on Saturday morning, May 25, when Wactor came upon three men in the process of stealing the catalytic converter from his car. Reportedly, when the actor confronted the thieves, one of them turned and shot him.
KTLA reported that Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to the shooting scene in the Pico Boulevard and Hope Street neighborhood around 3:25 a.m. on Saturday. When police arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The 37-year-old actor was later pronounced deceased at an area hospital.
The day following the shooting, Wactor’s talent agent, David Shaul, shared a statement on his death, saying that “Johnny Wactor was spectacular human being. Not just a talented actor who was committed to his craft but a real moral example to everyone who knew him.”
Wactor’s mom, Scarlett Wactor, described her son as “a light in a dark room” and expressed the devastating impact of his loss. Following the requisite autopsy, his family will be bringing him back to South Carolina where they’re already planning for his funeral, according to USA Today.
Scarlett Wactor told ABC7 that her 37-year-old son was leaving work at a downtown rooftop bar and was walking with one of his coworkers when he saw what looked like someone working on his car.
He initially thought his car was being towed, she said, and he approached the person to ask if that was the case. But when the suspect looked up, he was wearing a mask, and opened fire.
As of this writing, nio arrests have been made and the three suspects involved in the robbery and fatal shooting are still at large. Police say that they made good their escape by fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
According to IMDb, Wactor had appeared as Brando Corbin in 164 episodes of “General Hospital” between 2020 and 2022. He also made appearances in “Station 19,” “Criminal Minds” and “Westworld.” He is survived by his mom and his two brothers.
