Heartless shoplifting dad flees car accident, leaves 2-year-old son lying in the road
Christopher Kuhn, 27, of Hamilton, New Jersey, was charged with the third-degree-murder of his two-year-old son, Qaden Trievel, after Kuhn fled a Walmart in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, on October 3 and his son was killed in a car crash when the father ran a red light. Walmart security from the Levittown Town Center tried to stop Kuhn when he allegedly left the store without paying for a $228 sound bar. Kuhn covered his license plate with a sweatshirt, placed his toddler son in the back seat of his Jeep without securing the child in his car safety seat and raced away.
Although no one was chasing him from the Walmart parking lot, Kuhn ran a red light resulting in a crash with two other vehicles. Kuhn T-boned one of those cars which then crashed into a third vehicle. Kuhn’s Jeep rolled several times and Qaden was ejected from his Jeep. Police said that Kuhn was driving on a suspended New Jersey license. According to NBC News:
The impact [of the crash] caused the SUV to roll over several times and the boy was thrown from the vehicle onto the roadway. According to the affidavit, Kuhn ran away on foot after the crash, pausing to look at his son on the roadway before fleeing. “The suspect then stepped over the child who was laying in the roadway and fled the scene. Officers apprehended him a short distance from the crash.”
“Police said the father paused to look at his injured son on the street and then ran away from the scene,” according to Fox News. Officers chased Kuhn on foot, caught up to him and arrested him while others on the scene tried tending to the little boy. Qaden was transported to Lower Bucks Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Fox also reported that in 2016, “Kuhn allegedly strangled, bit and held a screwdriver to his ex-girlfriend’s neck while she held his 9-month-old child. He had also threatened to kill her in a previous incident.”
After his arrest and following a medical evaluation, it was determined, that Kuhn was not injured in the accident that killed his son. On the evening of October 2, Kuhn was charged with third-degree murder, homicide by vehicle, accidents involving death or injury while not properly licensed, retail theft, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and running a red light. His bail was set at $5 million cash. Kuhn’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 10.
Kuhn and his son’s mother, Mackenzy Trievel, shared custody of Qaden. The child had spent the four days leading up to his death with his father and was scheduled to be returned to his mom on the day of his tragic death. Instead, Mackenzy Trievel was summoned to the hospital to identify her son’s remains. When asked about Kuhn, Fox News in Philadelphia, quoted Trievel as saying “He’s a disgusting human being,” Trievel said of her ex-boyfriend. “He was only worried about himself.” Speaking about her son, the grieving mom said, “When he walked into a room, people would smile. He was a good boy. He was a perfect child.” In a heart-breaking Facebook post, Qaden’s mother shared a picture and wrote:
