Update: Machete wielding man who shot another in the face identified (Video)

(Article updated July 30) – On July 22, Florida’s Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Violent Crimes Unit detectives released a surveillance video of a man who threatened another man with a machete and then shot him last month in Oakland Park. Deputies need assistance in identifying the machete-wielding shooter. Please be forewarned that the video comes with the “Warning! that Some Content May be Disturbing to Some Viewers.”
Update: On Thursday, July 28, Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit detectives arrested Luis Alberto Escolástico Canela for shooting another man in the face last month in Oakland Park. Canela was arrested in North Lauderdale. He faces one charge of attempted murder in the first degree.
BSO’s Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response (V.I.P.E.R.) team investigators assisted in the apprehension.

At approximately 1:49 a.m. on Monday, June 6, BSO district deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded to a report of a shooting near the 7-11 store at 3800 North Andrews Avenue in Oakland Park. Paramedics located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and survived his injury.
BSO detectives located surveillance video that captured the crime. On camera, two men can be seen exchanging words outside of the store. Suddenly, the still unidentified subject is seen pulling a machete out of his pants and wielding it at the victim. The conversation continues as the subject approaches the victim.
The subject then walks away. Moments later, he returns, points a gun at the victim, walks straight towards him and gets close enough to shoot him in the face.
The assailant is then seen fleeing the scene in a four-door dark, colored Infiniti.
