Yesterday, Florida’s Martin County Sheriff’s Office announced that they, in cooperation with the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, took part in a high speed chase on I-95 through Palm Beach County and Martin County – and in the end successfully captured a fugitive that was wanted for murder.  The Sheriff’s Office posted a video of the arrest.

That video shows that the high-speed pursuit culminated in a car crash following a “pit maneuver” by law enforcement that sent the suspect vehicle into a flip and crash.  The shirtless murder suspect, identified by WPTV as Jamarquis Williams, was a passenger in the suspect vehicle and can be seen crawling out of the crashed car through the shattered rear windshield.

The Sheriff’s Office said they had been tailing Williams and the white 4-door Chevy Malibu with two other people with whom he was riding.

… at some point the people in the car realized they had company on their tail and started to speed up. At one point, speeds reached 110 miles-per-hour. Pursuing deputies performed a PIT maneuver to cause the driver to lose control of the car. The car crash and flipped on its side near mile marker 107. ~ CBS News 12

The Sheriff’s Office said that Williams is a “murder suspect out of Palm Beach County” and that he was “wanted for first-degree murder with a firearm for a homicide that occurred a homicide that occurred on February 23.”  The car crash and arrest forced several lanes of I-95 to be shut down temporarily until officials wrapped up their investigation.

The police chase through the two Southern Florida counties lasted for approximately 27 miles.  Although Williams was carried off on a stretcher, no-one was seriously injured.

“They were on their phone. They were moving around in the car. They were talking to each other, but they weren’t compliant,” he said. “So, we had a short standoff with them. During that standoff, gas was deployed into the vehicle. At that time, the three of those individuals decided to surrender.”  ~ WPBF

The individual behind the wheel of the suspect vehicle was identified as Marquavious Davis, who was also taken into custody and charged with fleeing and eluding. For more on the chase and arrest of murder suspect Jamarquis Williams, see the video below accompanying this article.
