The Baltimore Police Department just reported making an arrest in the shooting death of 35-year-old Kevin Abel Torres Guerrero, who lost his life back on November 7 in the City’s Highlandtown area.  Homicide detectives have arrested 39-year-old Keith Luckey in connection with that shooting.

Luckey was a security guard working security at the ChrisT Bar on East Lombard Street when the shooting occurred.  And earlier today, (December 6) Luckey was arrested and transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility where he was formally charged with murder in the first degree.

Background: Around 1:26 a.m. on November 7, Baltimore City officers were patrolling in the area of East Lombard Street when they heard weapon discharging coming from the 4000 block of East Lombard.  Once they arrived on the scene, the officers found Guerrero suffering from a gunshot wound to the body. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim, Torres Guerrero, was described by WJZ as a local and beloved soccer coach.

Guerrero was reportedly out celebrating a win by his team on that tragic night when his daughter reportedly got into a fight with another woman at the bar.

The security guard at the bar … identified as Luckey … tried to hit the woman with a baton, prompting Guerrero to step in and shove the security guard asking him to stop. The security guard later pepper-sprayed Guerrero, who reached for the nearest object to defend himself with, and tossed a brick. After the brick was tossed, Luckey fatally shot Guerrero. ~ The Daily Voice

Torres’ killing sparked cries from family and the community for justice and closure. Torres was celebrating his soccer team’s league championship at the bar that night.

Police said Tuesday they consulted the office of Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby before charging Luckey with murder.  ~ The Baltimore Sun
