‘Highly organized’ South Florida burglary ring busted with $200K of stolen meds and retail products
On February 10, the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) released word that while working in tandem with a partnering South Florida law enforcement agency, four young men that comprised a highly organized retail theft group had been tracked down and taken off the streets. All of the alleged thieves are in their 20s. BSO reported that the arrests came as part of a team effort along with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO.)
Those two Sheriff’ s Offices reported that on Monday, February 6, members of the bold theft ring hit a Walgreens in Palm Beach County and committed a grand theft. PBSO deputies were on the scene and tried to catch the thieves on the spot; but the suspects made a successful getaway by crashing into a PBSO squad car. Those deputies involved did not suffer any injuries.
As the group headed towards Broward County, PBSO alerted BSO’s Burglary Apprehension Team (B.A.T.). With assistance from BSO Aviation, detectives with B.A.T. began surveilling the vehicle, according to CBS-12 News.
Once the vehicle parked in an apartment complex in the 3800 block of Pacific Point Place in Lauderdale Lakes, BSO detectives made contact with the subjects. One subject was immediately arrested, another fled and was quickly captured, and two others fled into a nearby apartment. After a brief standoff, the subjects surrendered and were taken into custody.
BSO then assisted PBSO with a search warrant of the apartment. Inside, more than $200,000 worth of over-the-counter medications and other products were found in the apartment. All four subjects were transported to Palm Beach County where they were booked into the Palm Beach County Jail. ~ BSO
BSO Deputies identified the four arrestees as:
- Cecil Jones Jr., 25,
- Roderick Taff, 24,
- Yahshua Holland, 23, and,
- Joel Walks, 25.
All four young men are from the greater Fort Lauderdale area.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate this highly organized burglary ring. Homeland Security Investigations Miami Office and El Dorado Task Force – South are also looking into the case.
