Update: Human remains discovered in Mt. Baldy Wilderness confirmed to be actor Julian Sands
(June 28 Update) On June 27, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department shared the sad news that the identification process for the body located on Mt. Baldy on June 24 has been completed and was positively identified as being the missing actor, 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood. The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results.
Sands made dozens of appearances in both television and movies since the 1980s, including as George Emerson — opposite Helena Bonham-Carter’s Lucy — in the 1985 Academy Award-winning film “A Room with a View.” Sands also starred in “Warlock,” “Leaving Las Vegas” and a 1998 adaptation of “The Phantom of the Opera” as the title character. ~ ABC News

Rest in Peace Julian Sands
(June 25, 2023) British actor Julian Sands was reported missing in Southern California’s Mount Baldy Mountains on January 14. Severe weather conditions in that wilderness region at the time hindered and halted regular search efforts. But on Saturday, June 24 around 10:00 a.m., hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Station after they discovered human remains in the same Mt. Baldy wilderness area where the 65-year-old Sands had gone missing.

Fontana Station deputies, along with the Sheriff’s Department’s Emergency Operations Division, responded to the scene. The decedent was transported to the Coroner’s Office, pending positive identification. Officials stopped short of confirming the identity of the remains pending autopsy results which should be completed this coming week.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said that they wouldn’t be releasing any additional details on this matter until the remains have been positively identified.
Coincidentally, officials had recently completed the latest search for Sands in those mountains, but reported coming up empty.
Last weekend, the Sheriff’s Department restarted its search for Sands, with more than 80 volunteers, deputies and other sheriff’s staff combing the Mt. Baldy wilderness. Despite using two helicopters and a drone team, the team was not able to locate the 65-year-old. ~ MSN
Following that unsuccessful search, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department posted the following on their Facebook page: “Although missing hiker, Julian Sands, was not located during the recent search mission, the case remains active. We want to thank all the individuals who assisted in the June 17th search and the previous search missions.“
