Home-made bombs and drugs discovered in Florida doctor’s home
Detectives with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office headquartered in Naples, Florida, announced that they arrested a Naples physician on March 30 after they found illegal narcotics and multiple homemade explosive devices in his Naples home while executing a search warrant. Christy Daniel Cugini, 63, of Isla De Palma Circle, is looking at several felony charges in connection with his arrest.
In a statement, Millennium Physician Group said they were shocked to hear about the allegations against Cugini. “He has been placed on administrative leave until further notice. We would like to assure our patients we are diligently working to preserve their continuity of care,” the group said. ~ WINK News
Detectives were executing a search warrant when they found numerous illegal narcotics in Cugini’s bedroom including marijuana, Tramadol, Oxycodone, and Hydrocodone. Some of the narcotics were in pill bottles with other people’s names on them. Many of the substances were of trafficking quantities. The search also turned up numerous items of narcotic paraphernalia, including heat seal bags, a vacuum sealer and a scale.
Cugini is charged with narcotics trafficking; possession of marijuana with intent to sell/manufacture/deliver; possession of marijuana more than 20 grams; possession of a controlled substance; and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
During the search, detectives also found homemade improvised explosive devices inside Cugini’s residence and garage. The CCSO bomb squad was brought in to investigate.
“The items bore no markings or warnings, and the construction of the devices was inconsistent and sloppy. They did not appear to be commercially produced,” according to arrest reports.
The search also turned up bomb-making materials including PVC pipe; powders commonly used in fireworks; and potassium nitrate and ammonium nitrate which can be used as oxidizers in the creation of home-made explosives.
Cugini was additionally charged with nine counts of making/possessing a destructive device.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that their investigation into Cugini’s activities continues – and additional charges could be brought. Cugini was remanded to the Collier County Jail on a $122,000 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in court on April 26.
(And as an unrelated aside, it appears that Cugini is also a guitar player that goes by the name Wally Bumble. See the 2018 Tweet below.)
