I-95 police chase ends with car crash in Vero Beach
On December 12 at 2:44 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol began pursuing a Toyota Highlander traveling northbound on I-95 out of St. Lucie County. The chase continued into neighboring Indian River County, where the vehicle exited onto SR-60 eastbound in Vero Beach and continued at high speeds. The driver that led police on that chase was later identified as 23-year-old Fermon Shakeel Green.
Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to assist and found the vehicle had crashed near the intersection of SR-60 and 66th Avenue. Judging by the images below provided by IRCSO, it appears the driver took out a light post.
Green attempted to flee on foot, “but didn’t get far,” according to Deputies. He was found hiding in a dumpster shortly after.
The Sheriff’s Office reports that the fleeing driver’s injuries were a result of his crashing his vehicle. Deputies arrested 23-year-old Fermon Shakeel Green on the following charges:
• Fleeing to elude
• Possession of marijuana
• Violation of probation (drug possession)
