Indian River County Deputies arrest burglar trying to take advantage of Ian’s stormy conditions
On the morning of September 29, even though the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) was dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian which was still raging through the area as a downgraded Tropical Storm Ian with dangerously high wind gusts and driving rains that produced numerous travel problems like localized flooding and intersections with downed traffic signals, deputies remained vigilant and on the job. And, they captured a ne’er do well who was trying to take advantage of the stormy conditions.
Early this morning, a resident called to report that a man was spotted breaking into a vehicle and fled with power tools into nearby woods. Deputies were able to quickly respond to the area where they successfully located and arrested the alleged burglar, identified as Matt Perron. Deputies also managed to recover many pieces of stolen property from other burglaries that were found in Perron’s possession.
IRCSO detectives obtained search warrants and are currently busy identifying the recovered property.
Sheriff Eric Flowers said, “We will not tolerate criminal activity in our community, and we will do everything in our capacity to protect our citizens and keep you safe.”
“For criminals who think this storm is an opportunity to victimize our citizens, think again!”
