On March 29, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported that on Monday night, deputies were called to a boarding house located in the 14000 block of SW Cherokee Drive in Indiantown, Florida, after reports that a man at that location was stabbing a woman. When deputies made their way inside the residence, the male suspect refused to let them into the bedroom and deputies had to force their way inside.

After deputies made that forced entry into the room, they found 39-year-old Andres Pedro Mateo kneeling over his wife’s body, and they were both covered in blood.  The wife has since been identified as Dominga Gaspar. She had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Also in the bedroom was the couple’s toddler daughter. A deputy immediately grabbed the child and removed her from the room, while another deputy forced Mateo to the ground. The child was not physically injured.

Despite lifesaving efforts, Mateo’s wife died in route to the hospital. Multiple people who live at that house told deputies Mateo was the person who stabbed the victim repeatedly.

Following his arrest and during an initial police interview, Mateo revealed the motive for murdering his wife – jealousy. Mateo believed his wife was having an extra-marital affair.

“When he came home from work, she was packing her belongings and she told him, according to him, she told him that she was going to leave him and that he would never see her or the baby again,” the chief deputy explained. “That’s when he went into his actions that resulted in multiple stab wounds.” ~ CBS 12 News

The deceased woman’s family said that they would like to send her body to her home country of Guatemala, so her parents could bury here there, according to WPBF

“The three-year old was in the room the entire time this incident was happening, and after they were able to pull her out of the room and moved her outside of the house to another family member who was on scene already,” according to WQCS.

“The baby, she’s with my other sister in Boynton Beach, and she is okay,” Antonio Gaspar, the victim’s brother told WPBF.

At his initial court appearance, the judge denied any bail for Mateo, who remains jailed at the Martin County Jail.
