IRCSO releases dramatic nighttime helicopter video footage of armed carjacking teens’ pursuit (Video)
Yesterday, Southeast Florida’s Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) reported on a police chase that went down last week regarding two young teens that were chased down after they carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint. The Sheriff’s Office also released dramatic nighttime helicopter footage of the pursuit and the arrests of the two armed teenagers.
On January 4 just before midnight, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office received an alert from the nearby Fort Pierce Police Department regarding an armed carjacking that just occurred in their city. The victim reported that two males approached him, pointed a gun at him, robbed him of his money and then stole his vehicle. The two males fled the scene in the stolen vehicle and headed north toward Indian River County where law enforcement license plate readers were able to detect their location.
Detectives, with help from the IRCSO helicopter (HAWK,) began searching the streets. One Detective spotted the vehicle parked in a neighborhood occupied by the suspects. When contact was made, the vehicle began to flee traveling at dangerous speeds through the neighborhood.
Prior to leaving the neighborhood, one juvenile female jumped out from the vehicle and was quickly taken into custody. As Deputies pursued the carjacked vehicle, it struck another motorist who was driving in the area. Fortunately, there were no injuries to that motorist.
Deputies deployed stop sticks and successfully deflated the vehicle’s tires. With four flat tires and surrounded by multiple law enforcement vehicles, deputies easily managed to take the two fugitives into custody. Following their arrests, the two teenagers were charges as follows:
Latravis Jones – Age 13 (Extensive Criminal History)
- Robbery with a firearm
- Carjacking with a firearm
–
Chavorta Lesane – Age 15
- Flee Eluding
- Leaving the scene of an accident
- Driving with no valid license
- Robbery with a firearm
- Carjacking with a firearm
The female juvenile who jumped out of the car prior to the pursuit was not placed under arrest and was later released to her family.
