Jason Momoa to star in upcoming action film ‘Sweet Girl’
Yesterday, the streaming service Netflix announced that the company has secured the services of actor Jason Momoa of “Aquaman” and “Game of Thrones” fame to star in their upcoming action film “Sweet Girl.” Director Brian Andrew Mendoza will make his feature directorial debut with this film which reunites him with Momoa. Mendoza has previously served as the Cinematographer and Producer on “Braven,” as well as Executive Producing “Frontier,” both starring Momoa.
The plot for “Sweet Girl” follows Momoa as a devastated husband who vows to bring justice to the people responsible for his wife’s death while protecting the only family he has left, his daughter.
Writing efforts for the new film are being overseen by Gregg Hurwitz and Philip Eisner, with current revisions being handled by Will Staples. “Sweet Girl” is being produced by Brad Peyton and Jeff Fierson (ASAP Entertainment,) Momoa, and Mendoza. Executive Producer for the project is Martin Kistler.
Momoa’s most recent project, “Aquaman,” surpassed a worldwide box office of $1 billion. He recently wrapped production on “Dune,” the feature adaptation of Frank Herbert’s science fiction novel.
“Sweet Girl” marks the third feature project in an ongoing partnership between Netflix and ASAP Entertainment. Additional series projects include “Frontier” and “DayBreak,” with future film projects also in discussion.
Peyton and Fierson have a successful track record with Momoa previously producing “Frontier” for Netflix which Momoa starred in and Executive Produced.
