K9s help capture fleeing violent Florida man wanted on several felony warrants
On March 7, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO,) headquartered in Shalimar, Florida, reported that a Holt resident wanted on charges of aggravated assault, firing missiles into an occupied conveyance, and discharging a firearm in public, tried to make a run for it when deputies attempted to serve a warrant for his arrest yesterday. The Sheriff’s Office said that the man ran, but was ultimately captured and taken into custody,
Hunter Carmichael, 21, was arrested Tuesday after K9 units from four different law enforcement agencies tracked him down. The K9 teams were from the Florida Highway Patrol, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Walton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Okaloosa Correctional Institution.
When OCSO deputies tried to serve Carmichael’s felony warrants yesterday, he took off into a wooded area behind his home at 391 Dove Run in Holt. He was apprehended about four hours later at 4088 East Street in Holt.
Fox-10 TV News reported that the original warrants are connected to a shots fired call on January 28 near Dove Run Road. The victim says Carmichael pointed a firearm at him and tracked his vehicle as he passed him in the area. He said Carmichael fired a bullet into the back of his vehicle from approximately 50 feet away. A bullet was found lodged in the tailgate.
Back in January 2020 when Carmichael was 18 years old, he already had a record including battery, and was arrested in Holt on drug charges and driving without a license.
Additional charges are pending against Carmichael, according to WEAR-TV.
