Justyn Ross, wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, was arrested yesterday in Shawnee, Kansas, on a felony charge of criminal damage of more than $1,000 but less than $25,000. There are conflicting reports in the media stating that his felony charge is actually criminal damage that’s greater than $25,000. Following his arrest, Ross was remanded to the Johnson County Jail and is scheduled to make his initial court appearance today, according to a report from ESPN.
The Chiefs said they are aware of the arrest but had no comment.
Ross, 23, joined the Chiefs last season as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson. He didn’t compete in 2022 because of injuries.
Ross has played in all of the Chiefs’ seven games this season, recording three catches for 34 yards.
CBS Sports shared that according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the 23-year-old Ross was booked on Monday afternoon and was being held without bond, which might give more credence to the fact that his charge was indeed criminal damage in excess of $25,000.
The Chiefs picked Ross up in 2022 as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson. The team had high hopes for him during his first season – but he ended up having to go on the injured reserve list for the entire season due to a foot injury.
Although he didn’t play at all during the 2022 season, he has been playing this year, appearing in all the Chiefs’ seven games for 2023. The Chiefs have a respectable a 6-1 start thus far in 2023, and are scheduled to go up against Denver this Sunday, according to The Bleacher Report.
