Kent County teacher arrested and charged after getting high and having sex with minor student
On March 9, Maryland State Police (MSP) reported that they had arrested and charged a Caroline County woman with sexual offenses involving a teenage student in Kent County.
Brittney Lyles, 29, of Ridgley, Maryland, was arrested Friday following an investigation by State Police. She was charged with two counts of fourth-degree sex offense, sex abuse of a minor, contributing to certain conditions of a child and other related offenses, according to CBS News in Baltimore. She was taken before a District Court commissioner in Talbot County for a bond hearing and is being held without bond at the Talbot County Detention Center.
An investigation into Lyles was initiated March 4 by the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division, Upper Shore Region. According to a preliminary investigation, the alleged offenses occurred in February. Investigators learned Lyles was working as a teacher at the Kent County Alternative School Program at the time of the alleged incidents. She is not an employee of Kent County Public Schools.
The MSP investigation revealed that Lyles met with a male student, 17, more that once during the month of February when the couple smoked marijuana and had sexual intercourse. Reportedly, investigators discovered a video of the two having sex on the teen boy’s cell phone. That video was used as the evidence needed to arrest the teacher.

Investigators consulted with staff from the Kent County Alternative School who positively identified Lyles as the woman in the video consorting with the teen student.
Reportedly, none of the improper activities between Lyles and her minor victim occurred on school grounds. It is believed Lyles picked up the victim in her vehicle from an off-campus location before taking him to another location where the offenses occurred.
By March 2, Lyles had been fired from her teaching position with the Kent County Alternative School. As of this writing, her trial date has not yet been set.
