Lamar Jackson, Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens: 2024 NFL Honors Winners
On February 8, the NFL handed out awards from the 2023 season at the 13th Annual NFL Honors in Las Vegas, the annual two-hour primetime awards special that recognizes the NFL’s best players, performances and plays. And it was a good night for the Baltimore Ravens’ quarterbacks, more specifically, one current QB, Lamar Jackson, and one former QB – the legendary Joe Flacco. Both of these guys are well loved in Baltimore, with each of them getting into the history books while playing for the Ravens.
Unsurprisingly, Lamar Demeatrice Jackson Jr., 27, won one of the evening’s most coveted honors and was awarded the Most Valuable Player award, this being Jackson’s second MVP honor. Jackson, who has been with Baltimore since 2018, won his first MVP award in 2020, and became the youngest ever player to achieve that distinction.
Lamar Jackson won the second MVP of his career on Thursday night and did so in rather dominating fashion. The Ravens quarterback received 49 first-place votes, meaning all but one person did not vote for him to win the award (the only other first-place vote went to Josh Allen). Jackson also had some fun with his brief acceptance speech, thanking the Baltimore front office for getting his contract extension done before the year. ~ CBS Sports
OG Joseph Vincent Flacco, 39, was Baltimore’s hero QB beginning in 2008 and fans still remember him taking the Ravens to victory in 2013’s Super Bowl XLVII with a 34-31 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Flacco took home the Super Bowl MVP award that year. Until his tenure with the team ended in 2018, Joe helped take the Ravens into the playoffs six times.
In his final days with Baltimore, he suffered some physical ailments and a serious hip injury causing a drop in his on-field performance and he was unceremoniously traded away to the Denver Broncos in 2019, being replaced as starting quarterback by Lamar Jackson.
Last night, Joe Flacco was awarded the “Comeback Player of the Year” award at the NFL Honors Ceremony. And he and Jackson celebrated together backstage.
