(October 26, 2023) At approximately 9 p.m. last night in Lewiston, Maine, police alerted the public that they were dealing with an active shooter situation occurring at several locations. Police urged the citizenry to stay off the roads and to shelter in place. Three hours later, 22 people had been shot dead, 80 more had been injured, and the Lewiston Police Department identified 40-year-old Robert R. Card as their person of interest in the latest mass shooting to hit the U.S.

Police later posted that they were trying to locate Card and that he should be considered “armed and dangerous.”
Susan Collins, U.S. Senator from Maine, posted images of the shooting suspect and his vehicle. Card’s white Subaru Outback was found “near the Lisbon boat dock on Frost Hill Avenue near Route 196,” according to police in Lewiston.
Currently, a massive manhunt is underway for Card – who is still on the run and who has been described as having a military background and is also a certified firearms instructor, and one who has been recently diagnosed with a mental illness.
“We have literally hundreds of police officers working around the state of Maine to investigate this case to locate Mr. Card, who is a person of interest,” Maine Public Safety Commissioner Mike Sauschuck told a news conference.
Several media reported that a Maine law enforcement bulletin identified Card as a trained firearms instructor and member of the U.S. Army reserve who recently reported that he had mental health issues, including hearing voices. It also said he threatened to shoot up a National Guard base. ~ Reuters
NBC News shared that The Sun Journal cited a Lewiston police spokesperson, and that the shootings went down at three separate locations: Sparetime Recreation, Schemengees Bar & Grille Restaurant, and a Walmart distribution center.
Fox News reported that, according to the White House, President Joe Biden has been briefed on the mass shooting. “The President has been briefed on what’s known so far about the mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, and will continue to receive updates.”
Almost 13 hours later, schools, state offices and most businesses are closed and much of Lewsiton remains on lockdown while the manhunt for Card remains underway.
