Man holds ex-girlfriend prisoner at gunpoint, later busted with crack cocaine and fentanyl
On December 2 at about 6:00 p.m., Officers of the Hagerstown Police Department responded to 136 S. Potomac Street for a report of a woman being held against her will inside an apartment by a male with a handgun.
That male was later identified as 29-year-old Andre Eugene Whitley who was the ex-boyfriend of the female victim.
The victim told officers that Whitley held her inside for about two hours and had threatened her with a gun. He also told her that if she called anyone for help that he would shoot them when they came. The victim was eventually able to send a text message to a family member, who then called police.
Upon their arrival, officers could hear arguing inside the apartment. The victim was able to get to the door and open it for the officers. Whitley fled out the back and he was subsequently arrested by officers outside.
Whitley had suspected crack cocaine and marijuana on him at the time of arrest. The gun was not located at that time. The victim gave officers on scene permission to search the apartment in an attempt to locate the firearm. While doing so, officers discovered more CDS and packaging materials.
The gun was not found inside the residence. Officers then utilized K9 Jacky to conduct an article search in the area where Whitley had fled. K9 Jacky led his handler to the location of the gun where it had been hidden. The weapon was fully loaded.
During the course of the investigation, officers were also able to obtain a search and seizure warrant for Whitley’s vehicle. A search of the car revealed 15 rounds of ammunition, 42 capsules of suspected fentanyl, 33 capsules of suspected crack cocaine and 9 vials containing suspected marijuana.
Whitley is prohibited from possessing a firearm based on previous convictions in the State of Maryland including a CDS Distribution charge and a CDS Possession with Intent to Distribute charge.
Whitley has been charged in relation to this case with the following:
- Assault 1st Degree
- Assault 2nd Degree
- Reckless Endangerment
- False Imprisonment
- Possession with Intent to Distribute Narcotics
- Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana
- CDS Possession: Not Marijuana
- 9 Firearm related charges
