Man scams his way into home of 83-year-old, pours hot pot of tea on elderly victim and robs him

Police in Tulsa, Oklahoma, say that they located and arrested a man who assaulted an 83-year-old – after that elderly gentleman showed his attacker an act of kindness. The assault victim told police that on the afternoon of February 4, a young man knocked on the elderly man’s door asking to use the man’s telephone. That young man was later identified as 20-something Tevion Black.
After making the phone call, Black also asked to use the man’s bathroom. Fox-23 News quoted Tulsa Captain Richard Meulenberg as saying, “It is hard when someone asks you something and you’re a good person. You are going to try to help, so in this situation it unfortunately turned south.”
After Tevion Black emerged from the man’s restroom, he began demanding money from the victim. The homeowner informed Black that he didn’t have any cash, but Black didn’t believe him. Black pushed past the elderly man and headed toward the man’s bedroom, where a scuffle ensued between the two – a scuffle between an 80-something-year-old and a 20-something-year-old.
The intruder found the man’s wallet and began to leave. The elderly man, trying to get his wallet back, tried stopping the intruder near the kitchen. And that’s when Black grabbed a hot pot of tea and threw it on the victim before fleeing the scene. Around 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, officers with the Tulsa PD responded to the man’s home near Latimer and Mingo for a report of a strong-armed robbery.
Police saturated the area around the man’s home and located Tevion Black less than a mile away. When police took Black into custody, they discovered he was carrying cash from the robbery; and they found the victim’s wallet in a trashcan nearby.
The wallet and cash were returned to the victim, and police say he was not seriously injured in the robbery. Following being arrested, Tevion Black was charged with 1st Degree Robbery by Force or Fear and booked into the Tulsa County jail on a $200,000 bond.
“And it turns out, the suspect had an ankle monitor on for his prior arrest, so we were able to use his ankle monitor information and track his GPS back to his house,” Meulenberg said.
