Man wanted for brutal stabbing in Vero Beach picked up in Ft. Pierce on separate fraud charge
On August 4, Florida’s Vero Beach Police Department reported on a case that went down late last month, when on July 22 at approximately 11:38 p.m., deputies were flagged down at the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office by a stabbing victim, a 32-year-old male, who was suffering from a large stab wound to his right arm. The wound was so severe, deputies had to apply a tourniquet to control the bleeding.
The victim advised that he had been stabbed several times by another male subject in a vehicle in front of the Oceanaire Inn Motel located at 1021 21st Street in downtown Vero Beach. Officers responded to the Oceanaire and located an additional crime scene.
Following multiple interviews with witnesses, the victim, and through other investigative means detectives with the Vero Beach Police Department were able to determine that the victim was stabbed during an altercation with an associate, 43-year-old Abel Erives, who fled the scene following the violent altercation.
An arrest warrant was issued for Erives for Aggravated Battery on July 25. The United States Marshals Task Force Unit was able to quickly locate and arrest him in Ft. Pierce on July 28.
Erives also had an additional warrant issued against him out of St. Lucie County for fraud and following his arrest he was booked into St. Lucie County Jail. Erives is being held on $10,000 bond and will be transported to Indian River County for the Aggravated Battery charge at a later date.
