Man wanted in connection to abused daughter’s death jumped from NYC 17th-story rooftop
On October 7, ABC News reported that Mohammad Torabi, 31, jumped to his death from the 17th-story rooftop of a hotel in Manhattan. His body was found yesterday “sprawled atop a third-floor air-conditioning unit at the Renaissance New York Hotel on East 57th Street,” according to The New York Post. Torabi was wanted by the NYPD for questioning in connection with the recent arrest of his wife Tina who is accused of beating the couple’s 13-month-old daughter to death while also severely beating the girl’s twin brother.
The boy, 13-month-old Kian, is in critical condition.
Tina Torabi, 30, was arrested on Wednesday after calling police to her home. She and her husband are estranged. The wife had an order of protection against her husband after he was charged with choking her back in 2015.
When police arrived at Tina’s home in the Auburndale section of Queens, they discovered 13-month-old Elaina in the cellar. The child was unconscious, and her body covered in wounds and bruises. Results of an autopsy are still forthcoming. The Post reported the NYPD as saying that both of the toddler twins suffered “severe body trauma.”
Police wanted to speak with the father to see what, if anything, he knew about Elaina’s death.
Back in 2017, all five children were removed from the mother and placed with their grandmother after the twins were born with opioids in their system. A judge returned them to their mother in March after no evidence of drug use was found. Child welfare workers made at least one visit to the house since then. ~ ABC News
Family members say that at one point in the marriage, the husband got his wife hooked on drugs. The unemployed father who has a history of drug abuse was living in Manhattan and reportedly jumped from that hotel rooftop some time on Friday evening. His body wasn’t discovered until Saturday afternoon. He left no suicide note.
The wife is currently jailed at Rikers island. As of this writing, the bad mom has only been charged with depraved indifference. Additional charges are expected. For more on the story, see the video accompanying this article.
