Man who ran over 70-year-old woman with E-bike, leaving her hurt and unconscious, identified and arrested

(March 15, 2025) Hit and Runs and E-bikes are not new phenomena in Florida; but someone hitting and running someone over with an E-bike and then leaving the scene is somewhat out of the ordinary. On March 14 near the Main Street Pier in Daytona Beach, a man crashed into a 70-year-old woman with his E-bike and sent her crashing to the ground.
That E-bike driver, eventually identified as Frederick Rich from Holly Hill, not only seriously injured the woman, but coldly fled the scene, leaving her visibly hurt as she was going in and out of consciousness while she laid on the ground.
According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, after Rich crashed into the woman, he “ditched the bike and briskly left the scene.”
Thankfully, deputies were able to gather witness statements and clear video surveillance that helped them identify Rich as their hit n’ run suspect. Law enforcement officials tracked Frederick down at his Holly Hill address and took him into custody for leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury. He was additionally charged with violating his probation for child abuse.
Initially listed as being in unstable condition, the elderly woman that Rich crashed into later regained consciousness and improved with treatment at the hospital. She did however suffer a broken leg in the crash. Frederick is in jail and as of yesterday was being held with no bond.
