Man who threatened to kill Donald Trump arrested in Arizona

On August 21, a man making social media posts threatening to kill Donald Trump got the attention of Arizona’s Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.  Trump is in Arizona presently in conjunction with his 2024 presidential campaign.

Because law enforcement officials took those social media threats seriously, an investigation into the situation quickly identified the man making those threats as Ronald Syvrud.  During the course of that investigation, officials also leaned that Syvrud had several outstanding warrants.

A wanted person flyer/information was released to the public in an attempt to locate Syvrud, and to take him into custody on those outstanding warrants. The flyer contained the information detailed below.


Wanted Subject / Suspicious Activity:  The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a Benson resident who is wanted on several outstanding warrants.

Ronald Lee Syvrud, White / Male, 6’0” / 220 pounds, Glasses, 66 Years of age. Last known address: Benson

This subject has outstanding warrants from the state of Wisconsin for DUI / Failure to Appear for DUI and from Graham County Arizona for Hit/Run and Felony Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.  The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office also has an absconder hold for this subject for failing to register as a sex offender.

Public Safety consideration: Syvrud is being sought as an investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate.   If anyone has information on the whereabouts of this subject, call your local law enforcement agency or 9-1-1.


Yesterday, things heated up after Syvrud posted a second social media once again threatening bodily harm to the former president, with law enforcement making finding their suspect a very high priority.  The Sheriff’ s Office deployed multiple units to the St. David area, after their investigation determined that Syvrud could possibly be located there.

On August 22 at approximately 2:16 pm, units on the scene observed Syvrud traveling outside of the identified location, and a felony traffic stop was conducted. Law enforcement arrested Syvrud at 2:30 p.m. and booked him into the Cochise County Jail on a felony warrant from Graham County, Arizona, for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and two counts of threatening in the Donald Trump case.

Syvrud remains in custody pending further court adjudication.
