Earlier this week, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department in Missouri reported submitting a probable cause statement for charges for 30-uear-old Carissa Jane Smith of Dixon, Missouri, who was a local substitute teacher. On November 8, a warrant was issued for Mrs. Smith with a bond of $250,000 cash. She was arrested on November 12 on criminal charges and was being held in the Pulaski County Detention Center.

Dixon was a long-term substitute teacher at Dixon Middle School, about 130 miles west of St. Louis, according to The New York Post.  The former teacher has been charged with 19 felonies, including:

  • 8 counts of statutory rape
  • 1 counts of statutory sodomy
  • 3 counts of sexual contact with a student
  • 2 counts of sexual misconduct with a student
  • 1 count of patronizing prostitution
  • 2 counts of sexual trafficking of a child, and
  • 2 counts of hindering prosecution

Background:  According to the probable cause statement submitted, information was obtained while interviewing victims that Smith would offer money, marijuana and/or alcohol to students in return for sex or to allow her to perform oral sex. Victim statements advised that Mrs. Smith would have sex with them at her residence and other various locations such as gravel roads or on the side of the road.

According to a victim, Smith had begun sending nude photos of herself via social media platform Snapchat while he was still in middle school. She also propositioned the child for sex and offered money (at least a $100) to engage in sexual activities. The victim was however warned multiple times against telling anyone about the encounters as “she would get into trouble”.  ~ Livemint.com

Police are still interviewing victims and said that more charges could be filed.
