Maryland man arrested and charged with child pornography
On the morning of May 29, Yishinn Liaw, 62, of Clarkesville, Maryland, was arrested and charged after a Maryland State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigation developed evidence supporting charges of distribution and possession of child pornography. Liaw was charged with three counts of distribution of child pornography and six counts of possession of child pornography. He was arrested at his home without incident at approximately 9 a.m. on Tuesday. He was later taken before a district court commissioner and held on a $25,000 bond.
In December 2017, an investigator from the Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit began an online investigation involving the distribution and possession of child pornography. The investigator downloaded child pornography and the ensuing investigation led to the identification of a specific residence as the source of the files.
On Tuesday morning, the Maryland State Police, accompanied by law enforcement personnel from Homeland Security and Investigations, served a search warrant at Liaw’s home. A preliminary forensic review of his electronic devices revealed evidence supporting the child pornography charges.
The Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit coordinates the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. This is a combined law enforcement effort involving police departments across Maryland that is funded by a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. Task force investigators focus on identifying those involved in child pornography via the Internet and other related crimes that victimize children.
