On August 19, the Prince Georges County Police Department announced that their homicide detectives arrested and charged 25-year-old Antonio Williams of Clinton, Maryland, after three of his young female relatives were all found stabbed to death in their beds in his home.  Williams was supposed to be caring for the three young girls while his mother was at work.  Found dead in the same bed were Williams’ sister, six-year-old Nadira Withers of Brooke Jane Drive, nine-year-old Ariana Decree and six-year-old Ajayah Decree. The Decree sisters are from Palm Street in Newark, New Jersey. They are the daughters of Wiliams’ mother’s cousin.

On August 18th, at about 7:35 am, police were called to Williams’ home in the 6400 block of Brooke Jane Drive. Withers’ mother had just returned home from work and discovered the victims. The three little girls were suffering from stab wounds and were pronounced dead on the scene.  The preliminary investigation revealed that Williams had sole care and custody of the children at the home overnight into Friday. He has confessed to killing the victims. Detectives are working to establish a motive in this case.

Fox5 News in DC also reported police as saying that all three of the girls were pronounced dead at the scene.  Police also said that Williams spared the life of his 2-year-old sister, who was found unharmed in the home.  Williams was charged with three counts of first and second murder and related charges. He’s currently in custody of the Department of Corrections and being held without bail.

The macabre stabbing deaths of the three young girls touched the hearts of those patrol officers and first responders that arrived on the scene to find the girls all brutally stabbed to death, according to words spoken by Assistant Prince George’s County Police Chief Hector Velez at a press conference on the day of William’s arrest.  Velez said that counselors are being made available to those responders and was quoted by The Washington Post as saying:

“Incidents like these are not easy to handle. As parents, aunts, uncles and siblings of young children, it hurts us as well. Our initial thought is to want to hug our children, but we know we have to put those feelings aside and remain steadfast in finding who the killer is and telling the story that these three children cannot tell.”

Police are still trying to determine a motive for the slayings. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 301-772-4925.
