Meth-head husband booby-traps home to electrocute pregnant wife
In what one cop described as “one of the most bizarre domestic violence cases I have seen in my career,” a Florida fugitive was captured in Knoxville, Tennessee, and charged with rigging a door in his Palm Coast, Florida, home in an effort to electrocute his pregnant wife. On December 28, police in Knoxville caught up with the bad husband, 32-year-old Michael Scott Wilson, and arrested him. The immediate plan is to extradite Wilson back to Florida, according to a December 29 report from Knox News.
On Tuesday, deputies from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office were called to Wilson’s estranged wife’s Florida home. It was Wilson’s father-in-law who called the cops after discovering what appeared to be a booby trap attached to a door at the residence. The father-in-law got suspicious after receiving a warning from Wilson about not letting any children touch the front door of the home.
Once on scene, deputies observed that the front door appeared to be barricaded and there were burn marks near the door handle. A deputy kicked the door and upon doing so, a large spark was observed. Based on observations made by the deputies on scene, it was apparent that the suspect rigged electrical devices to the top door lock and lower door handle in an attempt to electrocute and cause serious bodily injury or even death to whomever attempted to unlock and open the front door of the residence. ~ Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Statement
Deputies concluded that Wilson booby-trapped the door to electrocute his pregnant wife. Deputies also say that Wilson stole a firearm from the residence belonging to his wife’s father.
NBC News affiliate WBIR quoted Sheriff Rick Staly of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office as saying, “Not only did this man plan to electrocute his wife, but he could have injured a deputy or any person attempting to enter this residence. Thankfully this man was found and taken into custody before he could cause the harm he intended.” It was also Staly who said, “This is one of the most bizarre domestic violence cases I have seen in my career.”
Wilson is looking at two counts of attempted aggravated battery on a pregnant person and one count of grand theft of a firearm. And when Knoxville police searched him during his arrest, they discovered a bag of meth hidden in his shoe. So, he’s also being charged with possession of 1.8 grams of methamphetamine.
