Meth-using pregnant mom, 20, charged with murder of her stillborn child
Just as the month of June was coming to a close, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office in Decatur, Alabama, shared a heart-breaking story concerning a local woman who lost an unborn child due to the mom’s habitual drug use. That young mother has now been charged with the murder of her stillborn infant.
On May 13, the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division was contacted by Morgan County DHR in reference to a 20-year-old female that delivered a stillborn child 38 weeks into her pregnancy while at Madison Hospital. On May 16, the mother, identified as Faith Victoria Kemp of Falkville was arrested on an outstanding warrant for Bond Revocation – Possession of a Controlled Substance.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the mother had used methamphetamine throughout the pregnancy. An autopsy on the stillborn child was performed by the Alabama Department of Forensics.
On June 29, law enforcement obtained a warrant for Chemical Endangerment of a Child- Homicide. The warrant was executed on Kemp; and as of June 30, she was still in the Morgan County Jail from her earlier arrest. Her bond was set at $200,000.
Kemp’s legal woes connected to her drug can be traced back to May, 2021, when she was arrested while still 19-years-old and charged with Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Violation of Community Corrections and Loitering In Drug House.
A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, Mike Swafford says, unfortunately, Kemp’s situation is becoming more common.
“We have seen a spike in drug use, a spike in fentanyl, a spike in meth. We are seeing spikes across the board. So that would lend itself to pregnant people and child endangerment. Drug addiction has a lot of downfalls. This falls into that category. In addition to ruining someone’s own life, it ruins a family, community, a neighborhood. When somebody becomes pregnant, if they are not able to handle that addiction, it results in the death of a baby.” ~ WAFF 48
