Spring Break is in full swing in Florida’s resort towns; but this weekend, things turned violent in Miami Beach. On March 19, the City issued a state of emergency and curfew. Those measures were imposed in response to two fatal shootings and excessively large and unruly crowds, according to police in Miami Beach. The curfew went into effect Sunday night and lasted through 6 a.m. on Monday morning.
The City Manager for Miami Beach intends to impose similar and additional curfew restrictions from Thursday, March 23 through Monday, March 27.
Fatal gunfire in the area occurred on Friday and again on Sunday, with three people shot and two dying from their injuries, according to MSN. The Friday shootings and the Sunday shootings appear to be unrelated, isolated incidents, according to a police statement attributed to a report from CBS News.
Spring Break 2023 marks the third consecutive year that curfews had to be mandated in South Beach due to violence and unruly crowds descending upon the popular party spot.
