Miami-Dade Marine Patrol saves young dolphin ensnared in fishing net (Video)
On January 12, the Miami-Dade Police Department shared a video to social media depicting a daring rescue of a young dolphin totally ensnared in a fishing net.
Officer Nelson Silva, of the Miami-Dade PD Marine Patrol Unit, received a call of a dolphin in distress in Southeast Florida’s Shorecrest area. Officer Silva searched for and located the juvenile dolphin – trapped in a fishing net.
Silva starts to cut the net with a pocket knife. The dolphin occasionally puts up a fight, splashing and twisting to get away, but Silva has a steady hand, mostly. (He cut his hand.) ~ Miami Herald
See the video below to see how Officer Silva helped free the dolphin. You can hear him coaxing the young dolphin saying, “Come on big guy. Come here, It’s OK, I got you. I got you buddy.”
