Middle school security guard arrested after initiating affair with 13-year-old student
In an age where most school jurisdictions are moving toward adding police officers and security guards into their schools, at least one of those security guards has been arrested for doing more harm than good. On October 30, Broward Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit detectives reported that they arrested a middle school security guard Tuesday night after a parent reported that the man had inappropriate contact with her daughter. Investigators want to know if he has other victims.
Alejandro Escobar, 50, is a security guard at Deerfield Beach Middle School in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Detectives say the 13-year-old victim, a student at the school, disclosed that she began developing a close relationship with Escobar after she communicated she was having problems at the beginning of the school year.
Police say that Escobar provided the victim with a notebook, which she used to share her thoughts with him. Specifically, according to The Miami Herald, the young girl wrote down that she was having thoughts about committing suicide and that she was experiencing sexual desires.
Escobar should have reported to school administrators that the 13-year-old was suicidal. Instead, he “developed a relationship with her, telling her he loved her and kissing her,” according to police. Last Friday, while in his office, the victim told police that Escobar kissed her several times and touched her inappropriately.
The Herald also reported that the girl confided to her mother, that while she was in his office, the school security guard “kissed her neck several times, while grabbing her buttocks and placing his hand under her shirt.”
Following his arrest, Escobar was transported to Broward County Jail on a $40,000 bond. The former middle school security guard is looking at charges of lewd and lascivious behavior and failing to report.
In addition to his duties as security guard, detectives say Escobar coached soccer and volleyball at the school. If anyone believes they have been victimized by Escobar, they are asked to contact BSO Detective Sira Arroyo at 954-321-4240. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
