Missing for 85 days, 13-year-old Jayme Closs found alive in Wisconsin
On the evening of January 10, the Barron County Sheriff’s Department released a statement saying that “Jayme Closs has been located.” The 13-year-old girl has been missing since October 15. Police went to her home in Barron, Wisconsin, after receiving a 911 call around 1 a.m. that morning and found the door to her home kicked in and both of her parents shot dead.
Jayme was missing and there weren’t any solid leads on her whereabouts. Police believed she was at the house when her parents were killed. Hours later, local authorities said the girl was in danger and asked the public for help finding her. An Amber Alert was also issued. ~ per USA Today
In their statement last night, the Barron County Sheriff’s Department went on to say that after Jayme was found, a suspect related to the case had also been arrested and taken into custody and that their office wouldn’t be taking any questions. Officials did schedule a press conference for Friday morning.
Jayme turned up last night around 5 p.m. on a Gordon, Wisconsin, street about 70 miles from her home in Barron and about 85 days after she went missing. Jayme reportedly escaped from her captor and came across a person walking her dog on the street whom she asked for help. CNN reported that someone was pounding on the door to Kristin Kasinskas’ home screaming for help. When Kasinskas opened her door, “her neighbor was standing next to a skinny girl with unkempt hair and oversized shoes.”
“This is Jayme Closs!” the neighbor said, according to an account Kasinskas gave to the Star Tribune in Minneapolis. “Call 911!”
After being located, Jayme was transported to a hospital in the area and reunited with her aunt. Sheriff Fitzgerald of the Barron County Sheriff’s Department said that a press conference was scheduled for 10 a.m. today. For more on Jayme Closs being found alive, see the video below.
