Missing teen, Trinity Backus, found dead
On Thursday, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) in Nevada City, California, reported on the disappearance of 16-year-old Trinity Backus who was last seen leaving a residence at 18000 block of Kentucky Ravine Road Wednesday night around 10:30 p.m. By Friday, authorities were back in touch with the community to report that the missing girl had been found dead at approximately 2 p.m. on November 11.
Her remains were discovered in Nevada City in a “very heavily wooded river drainage area” and only about 1/2 mile north of the residence she was last seen, according to the authorities.
As soon as she was reported missing, Nevada County deputies along with Nevada County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue volunteers and allied agencies conducted an extensive search for Trinity, who was last seen wearing a maroon robe and pajama pants. She was described as being approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall with red hair.
Following the announcement that Trinity had been found deceased, the Sheriff’s Office went on to report that, “… at this point there is nothing suspicious and her cause of death is unknown. Our coroner’s division will be conducting a full investigation, including an autopsy.”
Many members of the public however, do find Trinity’s death suspicious and are looking for answers as to how and why she died.
The Sheriff’s Office also said that they have been in in communication with Trinity’s family and extended their deepest condolences to them. NCSO also expressed their deep appreciation for the hundreds of volunteers that participated in the search for the missing teen.
A text-only note posted Saturday to the Instagram Stories for Andrea Stanio, mother of 16-year-old Trinity Backus, pleaded that friends give the heartbroken mom space following the news of her daughter’s death.
“This is Amanda, Andreas [sic] friend,” the note reads. “At this time, Andrea needs time, and space to grieve. … Please do not randomly show up to her home. ~ The New York Post
