On February 14, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service, successfully apprehended wanted fugitive Rashawn Jamar Hawkins at a residence in Vero Beach, Florida.   Hawkins has been on the run since January 15 and was wanted by the police in Corinth, Mississippi, for his involvement in a January home invasion and robbery that tragically resulted in the shooting death of one victim.

The Daily Journal reports that Hawkins has waived extradition and officers from Corinth will be travelling today to retrieve Hawkins and transport him back to Mississippi so he can face charges in Alcorn County.

Corinth police responding to 3830 Prosper Street around 2:30 a.m. Jan. 15 discovered Patrick Lakendrick Patterson, 24, with an apparent single gunshot wound in the torso.

The two women who lived at the house initially said a black male entered the house, shot Patterson and then fled. But police believed the women had more to do with the situation and quickly identified the women and two men as suspects.

“We know the females called Patterson and talked him into coming over to the house,” detective Heather Russell said. “They initiated the setup so that (the men) could rob him.”

Those women and another male were also arrested on January 15 in Corinth and charged with capital murder, obstruction, tampering with evidence, and all three are being held without bond.

Hawkins also had an active arrest warrant issued for him in connection to a December 29, 2024 carjacking.  For more on Hawkins’s Valentine’s Day arrest in Vero Beach, see the video accompanying this article.
