Mom arrested after 2-year-old daughter found outside alone, wandering near busy intersection
A Good Samaritan in Oklahoma City walking in the area of SW 74th and South May Avenue on Tuesday evening came across a two-year-old girl wandering around by herself near a busy intersection “pointing at cars.” That Good Samaritan looked after the toddler and called the authorities. Oklahoma Police arrived on the scene and took custody of the little girl, according to Fox News in Oklahoma City.
Officers were able to find the home the girl lived in and attempted to make contact with the girl’s mother, Marquashia Thompson.
Thompson was not home when police knocked on her door and neighbors told officers they had seen her leave around five o’clock that evening.
While trying to track down the little girl’s mother, the police entertained the child with cartoons, drinks and snacks. Turns out, one of the cops on duty recognized the little girl. Three days prior to the child being found alone and outdoors on Tuesday evening, “she was found walking down SW 74th, nearly a mile away from her home,” according to Oklahoma News 4.
Police were able to catch up with the toddler’s mother later in the evening at her place of employment.
Thompson’s story was that earlier that evening, a friend came to Thompson’s home to watch the baby. She also told the police that she didn’t know that friend’s name. That friend was supposed to take the toddler to Thompson’s mother’s house.
The police said that Thompson’s actions placed her daughter at an unreasonable risk of being harmed. The 22-year-old mother was arrested and booked on a $15,000 bond into the Oklahoma County Jail on charges of abuse, neglect or financial exploitation by a caretaker.
