Mom arrested after toddler found asleep on sidewalk at 1 a.m., two other kids left home unattended
Earlier this morning, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office headquartered in Shalimar, Florida, reported discovering a a three-year-old child sleeping on a concrete sidewalk at 1 a.m. on Saturday morning in Fort Walton Beach. That child’s mother has since been charged with three counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.
The Sheriff’s Office was called to Gibson Street around 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning after a security officer found a three-year-old wrapped in a blanket asleep on a sidewalk. Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of two more young children asleep alone in an apartment at the complex.
The mother of the three kids, 25-year-old Shyla Heidelberg, was arrested for child neglect after she returned to the apartment and admitted she had gone out to a nightclub about 90 minutes earlier, leaving the children unattended, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
