Mom charged in 2017 bludgeoning deaths of her two toddlers, ages 2 and 3
It took two years for an arrest; but on Thursday, a woman whose two babies were found bludgeoned to death in her Bronx home back in July 2017 was arrested and charged with two counts of manslaughter. The mother, 33-year-old Jade Spencer, had since moved to Bloomfield, New Jersey, where she’s been working as a nurse practitioner. Arrested in New Jersey on Thursday, August 8, she was transported back to New York City where she appeared in court on Friday for a bail hearing, displaying no emotion all the while she was there.
Officials said that the children were beaten so badly that they both suffered from internal bleeding.
Autopsies on 2-year-old Olivia Gee and 3-year-old Micah Gee found the causes of death in both cases to be blunt impact injuries to the torso.

The mother was not alone on that fateful day when her two babies were beaten to death. Her boyfriend back in those days, Novell Jordan, was also at her Bronx home. Spencer told officials that the children were already in bed when Jordan came calling.
That evening, after the kids were already put to bed, Spencer said that she and Jordan drank beer, smoked some weed and watched TV. A few hours later, it was the boyfriend who said that something was wrong with both kids. Spencer dialed 911 to report that her son was having trouble breathing and that her baby girl was unresponsive, according to CBS News.
The toddlers were taken to Montefiore Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead – Olivia just three minutes before her brother … Police also noticed unexplained injuries to both of their necks. The Medical Examiner then found older, healed injuries on the children’s bodies – dated to a time when the children were only in the custody of the mother.
Authorities are not pursuing any charges against Jordan. The Medical Examiner determined cause of death for both toddlers to be blunt force trauma. NYPD reported that charges took two years to be brought because they needed to thoroughly review the case in concert with New York City district attorneys.
There was no motive revealed for the toddler’s killings. On Friday, a New York City judge set a cash bail for Spencer at $100,000. She is due back in court on August 13.
