North Carolina high school teacher charged with raping student
A high school teacher from Raleigh, North Carolina, was arrested on November 24 and charged with committing a felony sex act with a student and also charged with a felony second-degree forcible rape, according to Fox News. Daniel Webster Smith Jr., 57, a teacher at Smith High School in Greensboro, is listed on the school website as being an Air Force JROTC Instructor, whose primary responsibility is to teach Leadership, Drill, Life Skills, and Communication.
CBS 17 News reported police as saying that his victim was a student at Smith High School. Following his arrest on Monday, Smith reportedly resigned from his teaching position. Police didn’t share any other details regarding the accusations except to say that the rape was reported to them by the student-victim.
Following his arrest, the teacher was remanded to the Guilford County Jail on a $110,000 secured bond.
