Yesterday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reported that they arrested a teacher from New York City who traveled to Tampa to have sex with a teenage girl that he met online. The teen girl was a minor.

On Saturday, January 23, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Zeshaan Naqvi, 31, picked the girl up at her Tampa home and took her back to his hotel room. After a few hours, Naqvi returned the minor home. At approximately 1:00 p.m., he again picked the girl up and together they returned to the hotel where they engaged in sexual acts.

Naqvi was arrested at the Country Inn and Suites Hotel located at 915 South Falkenburg Road, where he admitted to deputies that he knew the victim was underage.

“It never ceases to amaze us the lengths predators will go to, to get what they want,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “In this case, a middle school history teacher booked a ticket, boarded a plane, and traveled across the country to meet with a minor who he had been chatting with for about three months. This behavior is deeply disturbing and serves as a grim warning to parents to monitor their child’s online activity.”

Naqvi, who teaches social studies at the all-girls Young Women’s Leadership School in Jamaica, Queens, has been employed by the New York City school system since 2014, according to The New York Daily News.

Naqvi was being held at the Hillsborough County jail in lieu of $60,000 bail on seven counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and one count of traveling to meet a minor using a computer device to solicit illegal acts. Each count is a second-degree penalty, punishable by up to 15 years in prison. ~ The Tampa Bay Times
