(January 6, 2024, Update)  Just yesterday, Florida’s Ocala Police Department (OPD) announced another monetary increase to the reward offered to anyone who provides information of the Paddock Mall shoter’s location that will lead to his arrest. That reward has now been increased from $15,000 to $20,000.

According to the police, they are still actively searching for the Paddock Mall murder suspect, Albert Shell Jr., and we need information on his location that will lead to his arrest.

The Ocala Police Department is offering a $15,000 reward and the Florida Sheriff’s Association, at the request of Sheriff Billy Woods, has offered an additional $5,000 reward through their Criminal Apprehension Assistance Program. This now brings the total reward up to $20,000.



Police continue to urge the public to call 352-369-7000 with any information that could help them locate and apprehend Albert J. Shell Jr.

(January 2, 2024 Update)  Over the holiday weekend, the Ocala Police Department reported that they are still actively searching for the Paddock Mall murder suspect, Albert Shell Jr., and they are now offering a $15,000 reward to anyone who provides information of his location that will lead to his arrest.

Police again urging the public to call 352-656-6137 with any information that could help locate and apprehend Shell Jr.

(December 24, 2023, 3:20 p.m. Update)  Just now, the Ocala Police Department announced that the agency has doubled the reward for information that leads to the arrest of the man suspected in the shooting at Paddock Mall. That reward has now been increased to $10,000. Records show that 39-year-old Albert Shell Jr. has been booked into the Marion County Sheriff’s Office jail 18 times in the past two decades.

Ocala Police identify Paddock Mall shooter, $5,000 reward offered for his arrest

On Christmas Day, the Ocala Police Department shared the identity of the December 23 Paddock Mall shooter who killed one person and shot at least one more.  Police said yesterday that they’re searching for 39-year-old Albert J. Shell Jr. on criminal charges of premeditated first-degree murder and attempted premeditated first-degree murder. 

Authorities added that if your assistance and information leads to the location and arrest of their murder suspect, “… we will pay you $5,000!”

On December 23 while shoppers were busy buying their last-minute Christmas presents, gunshots rang out at the Paddock Mall in Ocala, Florida.  The victim of the fatal shooting – a shooting which police described as “targeted” – was identified as 40-year-old David Nathaniel Barron.  Albert J. Shell Jr. successfully made his getaway from the mall on foot and police are still searching for him.

In addition to the shooting death of David Nathaniel Barron, one woman was shot in the leg and multiple others were injured as they tried to escape the gunfire, according to WCJB.

“We heard the first pop and people started running. We heard a second pop then more people started running. I hid behind a kiosk thing until it was safe to leave,” shared Jeannette Murphy, a resident from Ocala who was shopping during the shooting.
