One dead, three first responders overcome by chemical smell after responding to Forest Hill residence
On the evening of August 11 at approximately 7:15 p.m., the Harford County Sheriff’s Office reported that their deputies responded to a rural section of Forest Hill, Maryland, for the report of an “unattended death.” Upon arriving at the residence located in the 2600 block of Chestnut Hill Road in Forest Hill, one deputy who entered the residence was overcome by a strong chemical odor and was forced to exit the residence due to that odor.
The deputy was transported to the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center as a precaution.
Two EMS providers were also overcome by the strong chemical smell after responding to the call and were transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation, according to WJZ in Baltimore.
Harford County Hazmat was requested to respond to the residence.
Found dead inside the Forest Hill residence was one adult male. The investigation into his cause of death and the source of that strong chemical odor are both still under investigation.
Officials said that the illnesses suffered by the HCSO deputy and EMS workers were non-life-threatening.
