One man dead and one woman injured in two-vehicle crash in Whiteford

One man was pronounced deceased at the scene and a woman was injured in a deadly car crash that occurred on the morning of March 8 in Harford County.  Maryland State Police say they are still actively investigating that fatal crash.

Shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Maryland State Police Troopers out of Bel Air responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Prospect Road and Whiteford Road. According to their preliminary investigation, a Kia Sorrento that was traveling west on Prospect Road crashed into a Toyota Tacoma that was traveling north on Whiteford Road.

The driver of the Tacoma, identified as 74-year-old Michael Elliott Bel Air, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical service personnel. Elliott was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

The driver of the Sorrento has been identified as 30-year-old Sanelisiwe Masondo of Belcamp.  She was transported by ground to University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for treatment of her undisclosed injuries.

Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration maintained the scene for road closures. Personnel from the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company also responded to assist. The road was closed for 4 hours during the crash investigation.  

Troopers say that the investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing. Thus far, there is no word as to what caused the fatal accident.
