Original Green Power Ranger, Jason David Frank, dead at 49
Actor and mixed martial artist Jason David Frank, best known for his role as Tommy Oliver, the original Green Power Ranger from the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” 1990s TV series, was found dead yesterday in Texas. A representative for Frank, Justine Hunt, confirmed the tragic news with TMZ. Frank’s rep asked for privacy for the actor’s family and friends, as they “come to terms with the loss of such a wonderful human being.”
Fans will remember … he started out as the Green Ranger in Season 1, introduced at first as an enemy of the Power Rangers — only to do a 180 and become good. After his powers start to deteriorate, however, he’s turned into the White Ranger … and tapped as the new leader of the group. Frank starred as one of the leads for 3 seasons, totaling 123 episodes.

In addition to the popular TV series, Franks reprised his role in additional projects connected to The Power Rangers’ franchise. His on-screen fighting skills were part of his real-life persona as he had earned a black belt and was skilled in a variety of martial arts forms that included jiu-jitsu, Taekwondo, and Judo. In 2003, he was inducted into the World Karate Union Hall of Fame.
Most recently, he filmed “Legend of the White Dragon,” a film that was partially funded with a Kickstarter and included other past “Power Rangers” cast members. ~ CNN
Many of Frank’s fans and co-workers took to social media to share their shock and sorrow at losing their friend.
The original Pink Power Ranger, Amy Jo Johnson, posted a pic of herself with Frank on Instagram at a past public event, saying, “Jase, you were beautiful and truly unique. My life just won’t be the same without your frenetic, hilarious, caring, driven and creative ball of energy. I will always love you, dear friend. Please Rest now In Peace…”
