Parkville, again: Ghost gun, stolen gun, Glock Switch recovered by police after latest shooting
On December 27, Baltimore County Police reported that their officers in Towson were called to the area of Wycombe Way and Glenbarr Court in Parkville after receiving calls about gunfire back on December 18. Reportedly, as many as 20 gunshots were heard in the area. After police arrived on the scene, they ended up detaining five suspects.
As their initial investigation progressed, police covered two firearms from those suspects.
One of the firearms was a ghost gun, which was loaded with 19 rounds of ammunition in an extended magazine. The other weapon was a stolen firearm equipped with a “Glock switch,” which changes a semi-automatic firearm into one that is fully automatic.
Ghost Guns are unserialized and untraceable fully functioning firearms that are put together by components purchased either as a kit or as separate pieces. Newer generations of ghost guns are now being created on 3D printers.
Two people remain held without bail in connection to this case. 19-year-old Kordell Clark and 19-year-old Louis Nolan are being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on multiple firearm charges, including possession of a firearm without a serial number and possession of a firearm by a minor. 18-year-old Jamel Jeffries, who was on home detention, also remained in custody due to an outstanding arrest warrant.
According to CBS News in Baltimore, ghost guns can be produced for less than $200, though they often are priced around $500. CBS News also reported that a ghost gun was used in the deadly shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The Baltimore County Police Department announced that as of December 16, 2024, 192 ghost guns have been seized in Baltimore County, compared to 122 ghost guns year to date in 2023. This represents a 57 percent increase in the number of ghost guns recovered by members of the Baltimore County Police Department.
