Police body cam footage released of actress Vanessa Marquez shooting death (Video)
Actress Vanessa Marquez had a recurring role as nurse Wendy Goldman on “ER” for three seasons beginning in 1994 and running through 1997. On a fatal Thursday in August 2018, she was shot and killed by police in South Pasadena, California. Yesterday, March 3, police released the dramatic body camera video depicting that officer-involved shooting, according to ABC News in Southern California.
Going back to that fatal day in 2018:
Police were called to the 1100 Block of Fremont Avenue in South Pasadena just before 2 p.m. local time on Thursday to perform a welfare check. Upon arrival, Marquez, 49, was having seizures and appeared to be suffering from mental issues.
After about 90-minutes of trying to offer Marquez medical help, police said she armed herself with what appeared to be a handgun and police opened fire.
The weapon turned out to be a BB gun, investigators said. ~ CNN, August 2018
That newly released body cam video begins with police entering the home of the actress to perform a wellness check.
… officers found packages piled up at the front door and hoarding conditions before they located her in a bedroom. When she saw the officers, Marquez screamed and began experiencing seizures on her bed … Marquez appeared to be about 80 pounds and frail from not eating for five days … ~ CBS News
Although the District Attorney’s office determined that the officers were justified in the shooting, the actress’ family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of South Pasadena.
Vanessa Marquez was 49 years old at the time of her death. Although best known for portraying nurse Wendy Goldman on “ER,” she has additional acting credits in “Stand and Deliver” and “Seinfeld.”
