Popular Ohio meteorologist Jon Loufman beaten by adult son in home, left in cardiac arrest
Yesterday, Ohio’s Bay Village Police Department reported that on July 9 at 5:41 p.m., their officers were dispatched to the 31000 block of Roberta Drive regarding a report of a man in cardiac arrest. That man turned out to be the popular and beloved meteorologist Jon Loufman from Cleveland’s local news station, WOIO, 19 News.
Police arrived at the scene and learned that Loufman had been physically assaulted. Loufman was able to communicate that he was attacked by his adult son, Daniel Loufman.
Bay Village Officers spoke to the victim’s wife, Julia Loufman who was on scene. She was taken into custody for questioning and later charged with Obstruction of Official Business. It’s not clear at this point if the wife was in on the beating – or just trying to protect her son.
An arrest warrant was issued for the victim’s 32-year-old son who was located and arrested early in the morning on July 10. Daniel Loufman was seen at Rocky River Municipal Court where he was given $1 million bond and bound over to Cuyahoga County Court. He was transported to and is being held at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center.
The son has been charged with felonious assault, according to MSN.
Loufman’s wife and son were both arraigned yesterday and both pleaded not guilty to all charges, according to News 5 in Cleveland. Julia Loufman was released from police custody after posting a $30,000 bond. Bay Village Detectives are still investigating.
Since the attack, the elder Loufman has been hospitalized and is listed in stable condition, according to WOIO. For more on the story, see the video from News 5 in Cleveland.
