Prince George’s Co. Police remember Fallen Hero who died in the line of duty
Earlier today, Maryland’s Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) shared that today, they were remembering one of their Fallen Heros, Sergeant Mujahid Ramzziddin, lost on February 21, 2018, while assisting a neighbor involved in a violent domestic confrontation.
Sergeant Ramzziddin began his life of public service in September of 1988 when he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served as a Marine with honor and distinction until being honorably discharged in April of 1997, having achieved the rank of sergeant. In February of the following year, Sergeant Ramzziddin joined the Metropolitan Police Department.
Sergeant Ramzziddin then joined the Prince George’s County Police Department on August 25, 2003, as a member of Session 99. Upon graduating from the Training Academy, Sergeant Ramzziddin was assigned to District III as a patrol officer. In 2006, he was awarded the department’s Silver Medal of Valor for confronting an armed subject.
The Sergeant went on to serve as an investigator in the Detective Bureau, the Auto Theft Unit, and the Gang Unit before joining the Special Operations Division as a member of the National Harbor Unit.
At approximately 10:15 a.m. on the morning of February 21, 2018, Sergeant Ramzziddin was at his Brandywine residence when he was alerted that a neighbor was involved in a violent domestic dispute with her estranged husband. Despite being off-duty, Sergeant Ramzziddin immediately and without hesitation intervened on her behalf and confronted the subject, placing himself in harm’s way. The victim’s estranged husband, who was armed with a shotgun, responded by opening fire on the Sergeant.
Sergeant Ramzziddin was struck by the assailant’s gunfire and died at the scene as a result. His courageous and selfless actions that day are credited with saving the life of the victim.
Sergeant Ramzziddin served the Prince George’s County Police Department for 14 1/2 years. He was the 30th member of this agency and the 55th law enforcement officer to give his life in service to this profession within Prince George’s County.
At the time of his death, Sergeant Mujahid Ramzziddin was 51 years old and survived by his wife and four children.
