Proud Boy Christopher Worrell, found guilty of Jan. 6 felonies, now on the lam, wanted by the FBI
This past May, Chrisopher John Worrell of Naples, Florida, a self-proclaimed card-carrying member of the Proud Boys, was found guilty of all charged felony and misdemeanor counts for his actions during the January 6, 2021, Capitol breach. He was supposed to be sentenced for those crimes on Friday, August 18, and was looking at a possible max of 20 years in prison for each of those convicted felonies. Instead, he went on the run on Wednesday, August16; and now the FBI wants him.
Prior to making a run for it, Worrell was on house arrest. His sentencing will need to be rescheduled.
According to the FBI’s Wanted Poster, Worrell is wanted for violating conditions of release pending his sentencing on federal charges. A federal arrest warrant has been issued for the fugitive’s arrest.
On May 12, Worrell was found guilty of the following felonies:
- assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a dangerous weapon,
- obstruction of an official proceeding of Congress,
- obstructing, impeding, or interfering with officers during the commission of a civil disorder,
- entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon,
- disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon, and
- engaging in physical violence with a deadly or dangerous weapon
He was also found guilty of an act of physical violence in the Capitol Grounds or Buildings, a misdemeanor. And although he was theoretically looking at a possible maximum of 120 years behind bars for all those felony convictions, he really would not have served that long.
Prosecutors asked U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth this month to sentence Worrell to 14 years in prison, arguing that “unlike many January 6 rioters, Worrell refused to take responsibility, has shown no remorse, and lied numerous times under oath to the Court,” according to court documents. ~ The Washington Post
