Punta Gorda man charged with murdering his fiancé who was found dead at home
On September 19, law enforcement officials in Florida announced that Nicholas M. Fontanez of Punta Gora, Florida, dialed up the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) to report that during a heated domestic argument with his girlfriend at 47830 Bermont Road on Friday, the woman had been injured. When deputies arrived at the residence, they found the young woman deceased and immediately transported the 22-year-old Fontanez to the Charlotte County Jail on the charge of Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm.
CCSO Major Crimes Unit took over the case and continued the investigation into the death the 20-year-old victim. CCSO said that their investigation was still active, and any additional charges were pending autopsy results. Today, the Sheriff’s Office announced that charges against Nicholas M. Fontanez have been upgraded to Second Degree Murder.
Fontanez reportedly told investigators that he pushed the woman, whom he referred to as his fiance, into a cabinet “harder than expected.”
